Kaylee Van Den Berg

Years at OCCS: I have been teaching at OCCS since 2025.
Education Background: I went to Northwestern College for 4 years and received my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I also have a reading endorsement. Growing up I went to Sioux Center Community schools.
Professional Experience: I was blessed to student teach at OCCS for both of my placements. I student taught in second grade for my elementary portion, and in Title 1 resource for my reading portion. I also was able to sub as a teacher/para during my student teaching experience. At Northwestern College I was able to experience teaching Christianly and put in 100+ hours of service. I did an overnight service trip to a Native reservation, logged 50+ hours of leadership on the Northwestern College dance team, and logged 50+ hours of diversity/service helping in schools, working at the Orange City Daycare, and volunteering at a homeless shelter in Sioux City. I have attended the Heartland Christian conference for many years through Northwestern and OCCS as well.
Family: I grew up in Sioux Center, Iowa and my family is from there. My dad (Mark), owns the Furniture Mart in Sioux Center. My mom (Melissa), works at American State Bank. My brother (Tatum) works at Furniture Mart. My sister-in-law (Nevaeh), is studying to be a teacher. I prioritize family time and have been so blessed to be near them during college and when accepting a teaching position.
Faith Statement: I grew up in a Christian household and I have been attending church/church events since I can remember! My faith really began to grow in middle school throughout events like 'Middle School Retreat' and youth group. My faith started to flourish and become more mature from late high school into college. My brother and I made profession of faith together during my senior year of college, and that is one of my most special moments. I went to a public school, so I had never experienced Christian education. At Northwestern, we integrated Faith into everything we did, whether that was in the classroom or outside. I was able to do a practicum experience at OCCS for one of my classes, and I fell in love with the school and the Christian element. Since that day, I knew I didn't want to teach anywhere else. OCCS is my dream school. Christian education is truly so special and a calling I have felt God place on my life. I believe that every child should be seen beyond their grades/accomplishments, and more-so as a child of God, made in His image. Matthew 5:16 writes, "Let your light shine amongst others, that they may see your good deeds, and glorify your Father in Heaven." This is the verse that I want to reflect in my classroom. Letting your light shine so that others may feel the love of Jesus.
Church Membership: I am currently a member of New Life Reformed Church in Sioux Center, IA. I have been attending this church with my family since I was a child and I love going there! I made profession of faith there, participated in Sunday school, TIC, youth group, nursery, Bible school, soup suppers, volunteer work, etc.
