Q: How and why did God create us?
A: God created us male and female in His own image to know Him, love Him, live with Him, and glorify Him.

of his pasture.”

Song: All Things Bright and Beautiful (PH #435)

A: Yes, unless we are born again by the Spirit of God.

Verse: 2 Samuel 22:47 “The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be my God, the Rock, my Savior!”

Song: Blessed Assurance (PH #490)

Q: What kind of mediator and deliverer should we look for then?
A: One who is a true and righteous human, yet more powerful than all creatures, that is, one who is also true
God.
Verse: John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Song: O Come, O Come Immanuel (PH #328)

Catechism: Heidelberg Q&A 21

Q: What is true faith?
A: True faith is not only a sure knowledge by which I hold as true all that God has revealed to us in Scripture; it
is also a wholehearted trust, which the Holy Spirit creates in me by the gospel, that God has freely granted not only to
others but to me also, forgiveness of sins, eternal righteousness, and salvation. These are gifts of sheer grace,
granted solely by Christ’s merit.

Verse: Ephesians 2:8–9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is
the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”

Song: Wonderful Grace of Jesus (CH #338)

Catechism: Heidelberg Q&A 32

Q: Why are you called a Christian?
A: Because by faith I am a member of Christ and so I share in His anointing. I am anointed to confess his
name, to present myself to him as a living sacrifice of thanks, to strive with a free conscience against sin and the devil
in this life, and afterward to reign with Christ over all creation for eternity.

Verse: 1 John 4:19 “We love because he first loved us.”

Song: Blest Be the Tie That Binds (PH #315)

Catechism: Heidelberg Q&A 86

Q: We have been delivered from our misery by God’s grace alone through Christ and not because we have earned it: why then must we still do good?
A: To be sure, Christ has redeemed us by his blood. But we do good because Christ by his Spirit is also
renewing us to be like himself, so that in all our living we may show that we are thankful to God for all he has done for
us, and so that he may be praised through us. And we do good so that we may be assured of our faith by its fruits,
and so that by our godly living our neighbors may be won over to Christ.

Verse: Colossians 3:17 ““And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

Song: Take My Life and Let It Be (PH #288)

You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath.
You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.
Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
Honor your father and your mother.
You shall not murder.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

might and love your neighbor as yourself.”

pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
