Heidi Griess

Years at OCCS: This is my first year at OCCS.

Educational Background: I received a BA in Elementary and Special Education from Dordt University in 2023.

Professional Experience: I participated in the PDS (Professional Development School) program through Dordt University. The program allows students to do a whole year of student teaching in the same school. I was able to do the PDS program at Sioux Center Christian School where I spent my time in a second grade classroom and a special education classroom.

Family/Personal: I grew up near the small town of Grafton, Nebraska. I enjoy going home to visit my family when I can. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, baking, and spending time outside.

Faith Statement: I feel very blessed to be teaching at OCCS. I am passionate about Christian education and am grateful to be at a school where I can share my love for Jesus with students. It is my hope that students who come into my classroom feel loved, valued, and respected. A verse I hold near to my heart is Psalm 139:14 “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Every student is created uniquely in the image of God. I am blessed to have the opportunity to teach them about God’s world and help them discover their gifts and talents they can use to serve in His kingdom.

Church Membership: I am a member of my home church. I am continuing to search for the right home church to join in Orange City.
