Musical Events

In addition to providing our 4th-8th grade students the opportunity to participate in orchestra throughout the year and to play for many different programs and events, there are additional events that enhance their experience, including:

  • Middle School Orchestra Festival - October in various locations.  All the 6th-8th Grade Orchestra participates.
  • Honors String Orchestra - November at Fischer Theatre in Ames   This Honors group is chosen by how far students are in their books and is by nomination by the teacher, with a judges panel from Iowa making final decisions
  • NW Honors Orchestra - January at Dordt College.   This Honors group is chosen by recorded excerpt auditions at the end of November.
  • Strings Night - May.  All 4th-8th Orchestras participate

All of our 5th-8th grade students have the opportunity to play an instrument in our band. In addition to regularly schedule band classes and lessons, our students have the opportunity to take part in the following activities:

  • Unity Band Festival (even years)
  • Spring Band Concert (odd years)
  • Interscholastic Solo/Ensemble Event-April
  • 5th Grade Band Performance-May
  • Pella Tulip Time Marching Band-May (even years)
  • Orange City Tulip Festival Marching Band-May
  • Hymn of the Month Program-May

Our K-8 students have weekly music classes along with our 7th/8th choir, which meets once a week. They will go out and sing in local businesses and retirement homes throughout the year in addition to the following activities:

  • Fall Music Concert-November (odd years)
  • Christmas Concert-December (even years)
  • Junior High Choir Festival-February (even years)
  • 7th & 8th Grade Musical-April (odd years)
  • K-4 Musical-April
  • Interscholastic Solo/Ensemble Event-April
  • Hymn of the Month Program-May
  • Graduation-7th & 8th Choir sings-May
