Dear

I am a 7th grader at Orange City Christian School and we are currently working to raise funds for a school in Guatemala City.  The school is run by volunteers and provides a safe place for kids to go during the day when they are not in public school.  Beyond providing continuing education for the children in an area of extreme poverty, the school teachers also provide additional kinds of support to children and families, and share Christ with them daily.  We, the 7th graders at OCCS, are interested in reaching out to this school to support and encourage their work in Guatemala.  We were hoping you might like to partner with us by making a financial donation to our Guatemala fund raising project.  We will be collecting funds until March 1, 2012.  We realize that these are tough times, so even a small donation would be a blessing.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,  Name,

Showdown – Group/Student Questions

  1. Discussion Questions:
    1. Why do you think God chose to go after the Egyptian gods and defeat them, instead of defeating just Pharaoh and the Egyptians?
    2. Why do you think God chose to harden Pharaoh’s heart?  What did this allow God to do?
    3. How would this “kinesthetic lesson plan” benefit the Hebrew people later?
    4. Read Exodus 8:8-11.  Why did Pharaoh say, “Tomorrow,” and not “Immediately!”?
    5. Read Exodus 8:19.  What did the magicians mean by “the finger of God”?
    6. Pharaoh was warned that the firstborn son of each household would die before it happened.  He had experienced God’s power through the first 9 plagues.  Why did Pharaoh not spare his own son’s life by submitting to Moses’ request at the time of that threat?  Why did he think he could protect his son this time?
  2. Student Response:  What do the plagues say about OUR God?
  3. Do some reflecting and then create some type of response to this lesson.  Ideas include writing a prayer of thanks to God, writing a song like the Song of Moses and Miriam found in Exodus 15, writing a journal response, finding a song that describes God’s power and sharing that with students, writing a devotional, etc.
