Years at OCCS:

This is my sixth year teaching first grade at Orange City Christian!  I enjoy working side by side with parents as they seek out God's will for their child.  I love building lasting relationships with my students.

Educational Background:

Northwestern College (2000-2004) is where I attained my B.A. in elementary education with endorsements in early childhood, reading and coaching.

Morningside College (2005-2008) is where I attained my M.A. in teaching.

Professional Experience:

I am beginning my 15th year of teaching.  My first four years of teaching were at Sanborn Christian School where I taught 1st grade, Kindergarten, started the Preschool program and taught some Physical Education.

I spent five years teaching Preschool at Sheldon Christian School.

My family is not native to Orange City/NW IA.  My husband Nate works in the training department at the Pizza Ranch Support Center where he develops current/future Pizza Ranch managers to operate restaurants across the midwest.  We have been married for 15 years and enjoy golfing together, running, family bike rides and cheering on our favorite sports teams.  We have two boys, Jacob (5th grade) and Christian (2nd grade) and we are a host family for an international student at NWC - so I will talk about "Henrique" a lot, he's a freshman, is a kicker on the football team and is from Brazil.  (He pretty much is another member of our family!)

Faith Statement:

I consider it a great privilege to incorporate my faith into my work.  I pray that my words be life, true and that the words I speak point my students to the Lord.  Two verses that speak to me in my teaching:

Ephesians 2:8-10  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast.  For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works for which God prepared in advance for us to do.

1 Corinthians 10:31  So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
