Papa burned his fence and the cotton started to burn, he did that unpurpose and I think that is nice, because he did that so T.J. wouldn't get hung he had his own cotton burn because he knew that was the only way Mr. Granger would stop the burning. I think it also helped, because the colored and the white were working together. I don't think I would have burned my cotton/fence to stop a hanging, because back then the cotton meant money for food, taxes, bills and more, so I think that it was amazingly nice what Papa did.

"I cried for T.J. For T.J. and the land."
These are the last two sectences of the entire book. My question is:Why does Cassie cry for T.J. when she never liked him in the first place? Wasn't he the one that got Mama fired?
When I was younger, there was someone in my life that wasn't always the nicest to me, but yet I never thought of a world without him. Then, a couple of years ago, he was killed in a car accident. I just couldn't believe it. I couldn't think of a world without him. Even though he wasn't always nice to me, I felt like he was a really good friend. I know exactly how Cassie felt. She didn't like T.J., but she could't comprehend a world without him.

I think it was so kind of Stacey to be a good friend to T.J. even though T.J had betrayed him so many times. I think that Stacey was great friend and he is a true friend, because even though T.J. had left him he helped T.J. when T.J. needed him he cared for T.J. When T.J. was hurt he helped him back home even though he knew that his parents would get mad at him for leaving without permission in the middle of the night. He was a great friend I think for standing up for T.J., caring, and being a good friend always being their for him.

Wow. Those last two chapters were amazing. I never saw that coming. TJ came hurt, scared, and tired to his "best friend" Stacey. Think of all the times TJ betrayed, was mean to and hurt the Logans, yet Stacey HELPED him. That sure tells you something about Stacey, he's a TRUE friend. Then the bigger shocker. When the fire broke out, everybody helped. I mean EVERYBODY! From the Averys to the Wallaces and even RW and Melvin were working side by side. It didn't matter what race you were, you helped. Mr. Granger and Mr. Morrison, side by side. Simmses and Averys working together, Kaleb Wallace looked at the Logans and didn't do anything nasty. Their one goal: Work together to stop the fire. We should be like that too. It doesn't matter if you are black or white, boy or girl, we have to work together to accomplish one goal: Spread God's Word.

Question: Would you have helped T.J. when he came to your house when he was hurt?
Answer: Yes, because he is still a friend, and he was really hurt. I would probably not have brought him home though I would have told him to stay at my house. I would have waken up my Mom, and told her about what happened to T.J. I would still have told my parents and I would have told them to bring T.J. home and talk to his parents.

Big Ma sighed and placed her hand on Papa's. "What if Hammer can't get the money?"
Papa did not look at her, but at Mr. Morrison instead. "Don't worry, Mama. We ain't gonna lose the land....... Trust me."
What do you think Papa would do to keep the land?
If you were Papa do you think that you could be so reassuring?

In chapter 10 Mr. Morrison met up with Kaleb Wallace. It was not going good. Kaleb was furious with Morrison for crushing his brothers bones. He was so mad that he threatened to kill him. I know Mr. Morrison was doing that to protect himself, but Kaleb Wallace has no right to take his life.
What would you do if you were in Mr.Morrisons spot? How would you feel?

TJ was really unreliable friend, but it was easy to fell sorry for him in the end. Do you think that TJ was a good friend in the end?
I do not think that TJ was a good friend, but Stacey forgives him and helps him anyways. Do you think that TJ is forgivable? And would you if you were in TJ's posision?

If you were one of the Logan children would you have felt sorry for T.J. and how R.W. and Melvin beat him up, and that they want him killed?
I think that I would kind of felt sorry for him because how he was hurt badly, and also because they want him killed because they think he stole the gun and hurt the Barnetts, even though it was really R.W. and Melvin. I also would've been upset that he comes back just because he got hurt and needs someone to help him get home, also he needs someone to talk to.

In this chapter Papa said: We Will Never Loose This Land.
Di you believe what he has to say?
Yes I do and I think that if you really believe in something then you can accomplish it through Gods help.
Gid lives us so much he may diceplen us. He teaches us right from wrong.

If you were Uncle Hammer would you have done the same thing and sold the car to get the money for the Logan family or would you have sold other things instead of the car?
I probably would of sold the car so that I could get more money from that so that I wouldn't have to sell more stuff. I also would've gave money so that they could keep their land, so Mr. Granger couldn't get it.

Would have gone to Vicksburg and get shot and hurt like Papa did or would you have just stayed home like Ma wanted Papa to?
I probably would've gone like Papa did even though I would've got shot and hurt, because I probably would have the couarge to get stuff to the famillies. I also would've got the supplies that the people who don't shop at the Wallace's store anymore, I also would've got the supplies that my family needed to have to eat and live their everyday lives.

In chapter 12 Cassie says that she knew that papa started the fire but that it would never be spoken of. I think papa started the fire in order to save TJ and to get mr Granger involved in the happenings of the night. That must've been papa's last resort because he burned up 1/4 of the cotton! I think this was a risky yet needed move. By starting a fire he stopped one.

When RW and Melvin robbed the store why didn't TJ just run away or try to say out of it? It doesn't make any sense for TJ to stay there who'd they rob the store! Also why did TJ hang out with then in the first place?! He should have realized what they might do to him because he is black. That is just my opinion. What do you think?

When the fire was put out Mama and Big Ma came home, but it was interesting because white were working with black people. The Logan kids ran to them and asked where Papa and Mr.Morrison were. They saw them coming down the road, but Little Man and Christopher-John had to go to bed. So Stacey and Cassie ran to see them. Mr.Jamison drove up and talked about the fire. Turned out Papa started the fire and Tj could end up in a chain gain.

One night TJ came to the Logan house. Cassie was awake since she couldn't sleep, when she heard a noise that wasn't Mr.Morrison. So Cassie went outside and saw who it was. She saw TJ going to Stacey's door and asking to go in. He go in and asked where the bad was. He sat down crying in pain, Cassie asked what the matter was. He said that R.W. and Melvin hurt him. Stacy asked how it happened and wanted to know the story. TJ said he couldn't tell, but he ended up telling them. TJ, R.W., and Melvin went to get the gun and they broke into the store. They got to gun and the SImms got some chest. Mr.Barrnet came with his wife came and both got hit in the head.

Do you think it was odd that the White people and town people were helping put out the fire with the Logans?
I was very confused when I read this. I don't know how you would just be ready to hang a Black boy, to helping out some Black people with their field of cotton on fire. I found this part very strange and I think there is something going on we don't know about. I also wonder what they did to TJ.

I think that if I were Mama I would teach the same things. I would want to tell my students the truth and nothing but the truth. I wouldn't want to lie to my students and teach them something that isn't true.
I think that Mr. Granger did what he did so that he wouldn't have an uprising among the young black students. He didn't want the black children to hear what Mama was teaching so he fired her. Mr. Granger thought that he was right even though he did not know the other side. The black peoples side. He didn't know how they felt, he only knew how he felt. I think that he also did it because he wanted some way to get the 200 acres that there was morgage to pay on yet. He wanted to see if they could pay it off without that job.
I agree with AW. lf I were Mama, I definitely wouldn't stop teaching what the truth is, but I would probably do it in a more subdued way. I wouldn't make it as obvious that I was teaching what the whites didn't want the students to learn. I really don't understand why Mr. Granger didn't want the kids learning that, or why it matters so much. They probably still care about it now, but it was YEARS ago and has absolutely nothing to do with the people in their generation now!
